本書の主な目的は以下の通りです： (1) 21世紀の様々な課題と、それらが移民の文脈における言語習得、学習、使用、実践にどのような影響を与えるかについて議論し、(2) 現代の世界的な移民の言語エコロジー?景観の変化に照らして、概念と原則がどのように再定義され、あるいは再想像されうるかを検討し、(3) 特に世界各地のさまざまな移民言語学的事例、経験、応用に照らして、なぜ多言語主義とモビリティについての十分かつ深い理解が必要なのかを論じ、そして、(4) 移民言語学が、移民という文脈における言語を理解するためだけでなく、21世紀の複雑な社会問題に対応する上でより重要で、強力かつ有望な学問的探究であり、実践的取り組みであることを提示します。
本書は、3つのセクションから成る8本の論文によって構成されています。編集は、アリアン?マカリンガ?ボルロンガン准教授（本学大学院総合国際学研究院）と、本学協定校であるカーティン大学（オーストラリア?パース）のリサ?リム人文学部長兼准教授が担当しました。本学からは、アリアン?マカリンガ?ボルロンガンとロン?ブリジット?ヴィログ（2022-2023年度日本学術振興会外国人招へい研究者、本学にて受け入れ）が、トランスナショナル?ワークにおける諸英語に焦点を当て、言語多様性と労働移民に関する論文を執筆しました。また、本学特定非常勤講師の久留須健一郎と大学院総合国際学研究科博士後期課程大学院生の小田千敏、ミハイル?アリク?ゴ、呉 迪、ケヴィン?ブランドン?サウレ、サクシ?ナランによる、留学生のモビリティと高等教育の国際化における英語の役割についての共著論文も所収されています。

The primary goals of this special issue are to: (1) discuss the various challenges of the twenty-first century and how they impact language acquisition, learning, use, and practices in migratory contexts; (2) examine how concepts and principles are being or may be redefined and reimagined in light of the changing linguistic ecologies and landscapes of contemporary global migration; (3) argue why an adequate and profound understanding of multilingualism and mobility is necessary, most especially in light of different migratory linguistic cases, experiences, and applications from around the world,; and (4) present migration linguistics as a potent and propitious scholarly inquiry and practical enterprise, not only in understanding language in the context of migration but more importantly in responding to the complex social issues of the twenty-first century.
This special issue contains eight articles, organized into three sections. It was guest edited by Ariane Macalinga Borlongan, Associate Professor at the Institute of Global Studies, and Lisa Lim, Associate Professor and Dean International for Faculty of Humanities of Curtin University, a TUFS partner institution in Perth, Australia. An article on language varieties and labor mobilities, with special focus on Englishes in transnational work, was written by Ariane Macalinga Borlongan and Ron Bridget Vilog, previously Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Invitation Fellow at TUFS in Academic Year 2022-2023. There is also a contribution on the role of English in international student mobility and internationalization of higher education from Kenichiro Kurusu, Lecturer at the Institute of Japan Studies and students from the Graduate School of Global Studies Chisato Oda, Mikhail Alic Go, Wu Di, Kevin Brandon Saure, and Sakshi Narang.
