Dr. Godfrey Hampwaye, senior lecturer at Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, University of Zambia, and visiting professor at African Studies Center - TUFS, delivered a public lecture on the theme "China Zambia Relations: What went Wrong, When and Why?" Dr. Hampwaye briefly expatiated on China Africa relations before and after independence and on development in general, and China Zambia relations in particular. He indicated that in Zambia, Chinese investments are mainly focused on mining, construction, agriculture, manufacturing and timber. In conclusion, Dr. Hampwaye specifically explained how China-Zambia economic relations began in the late 1990s, and why in recent times, there appeared among the general public in the country, anti-Chinese sentiments especially in the mining sector. Further still in the conclusion, a question was posed as to why only the Chinese companies are targeted out of so many foreign companies operating in Zambia. Is it for political expediency by political opponents or the behavior of Chinese owned companies themselves?
