Undoubtedly, Africa is one of the key players in the current world. While Japan has forged close ties with Africa through diplomacy, trade and investment, and other cooperation in public and private sectors, more efforts are currently required to further strengthen the bilateral relations as well as to tackle global issues concerning Africa, including industrial development, poverty reduction, peacebuilding, climate change, and protection of biodiversity. In this context, reliable information and in-depth understandings about Africa are absolutely indispensable. African Studies Center - Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (ASC -TUFS) has been established to explore important issues concerning present-day Africa, contributing to develop Africa-Japan relations. Through research, education, networking, and other activities, we aim to be a leading center for African studies.
