This is a lecture series in which curators and artists working on practices related to the public sphere are invited to speak during the summer intensive course of the HIPS program.
Opportunities for guest speaker lectures (online) and exhibition visit (on site) are also open to those who are not HIPS students, so if you are interested, please contact to the following address.

  1. Mariko SUGITA ”Sensory Urbanism – understanding spaces through our senses and bodies”

    ?Mariko Sugita, a researcher on architecture and urbanism who runs the design project “For Cities,” will talk about the relationship between urban space and design based on her experience working in various countries around the world.

  2. Minako YOSHINO ”Public Art for Urban Society”

    ?Minako Yoshino, who is a New York City-based Japanese fine artist, has a rare experiences of creative activities in abroad, including the creation of Holocaust memorials. She will talk about the landscape that sculpture shapes and the way public spaces should be.

  3. Takashi ARAI + Daigo Fukuryu Maru Exhibition Hall visit “Photography and Artifacts”

    ?Takashi Arai, a photographer and videographer based in Kawasaki and Berlin, has mastered the daguerreotype, an old method of taking photographs, and has published his works using this technique to take pictures of the Daigo Fukuryu Maru. On the day of his lecture, we will actually visit the Daigo Fukuryu Maru Exhibition Hall in Shinkiba, and view the exhibitions in a workshop style.

  4. Megata Hiruzen ”Paintings and Dimension”

    ?Megata Hiruzen, who creates paintings and visual works, will share how to approach culture from the perspective of an artist with the theme of “space” in this workshop.
