Inter-University Exchange Project
~Supporting the Formation of Relations with Universities in ASEAN Countries~
TUFS Japan Specialist Program for the Enhancement of Japanese Language and Cultural Outreach in Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia
This program aims to set up two-way exchange opportunities for both Japanese students studying Burmese, Laotian, or Khmer, and students from Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia who have an interest in Japan. The overall goal of this program is to cultivate Japanese experts of Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia, and to foster human resources from these three countries that can speak Japanese, understand Japanese society, and act as bridges between their own countries and Japan.

~Supporting Formation of Relations with Russian Universities~
TUFS Japan-Russia Student Mobility Program: Creating Business Networks and Fostering Human Interaction
This program is a collaborative initiative between TUFS and six renowned Russian universities. This program is comprised of three types of exchange programs – short-term and long-term exchange programs and an internship program – and will strengthen Russia-related education, Japan-related education, and practical economic education at each university in order to foster ‘Japan-Russia Human Resources’ that are knowledgeable in all things Japan and Russia and economics, have good communication skills, and can negotiate economic and cultural relations between the two countries.

Trans-Pacific Collaborative Online International Learning Program to Foster Multicultural Awareness and Conflict-Resilience
In cooperation with the International Christian University, this program utilizes a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) method to facilitate on-line lectures and discussions with partner institutions mainly in the California region of the United States. By providing opportunities for study abroad and internships through COIL-based education, this project aims to foster human resources who will develop a practical vision and take an active role in the global community to solve the various issues facing Japan and the U.S.

~Japan-EU Strategic Higher Education Partnership~
Global Human Resources Development Program to Deepen Mutual Understanding between Japan and Europe, Using Key Concepts of History and the Public Sphere
This is a double-degree Master's program based on the concept of "History in the Public Sphere", conducted by TUFS and four universities in the EU. Participating students from Japan will join selected students from the EU and study in English at three or more universities in Japan and the EU for one semester at a time, with the aim of obtaining two Master's degrees.
The program fosters global human resources who can generate their knowledge of history and historical research, and translate it into practice from a broader social perspective.

Promotion of Japan Studies
A MEXT Functional Enhancement Project at TUFS since 2015 ―Strengthening of Japan’s Presence― Here at TUFS, we are working towards a single mission: ‘to establish education and research systems for Japanese language education and Japan studies from an international perspective, while also broadly spreading the outcomes of research on Japan, international society, and culture.’ These proactive efforts have been recognised by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Japan as part of the ‘Public University Functional Enhancement Program.’ |

- Reorganization of Teaching Staff
The Japan-related staff at the Institute of Global Studies, the International Center for Japanese Studies, and the Japanese Language Center for International Students have been reassigned to the newly established Institute of Japan Studies to strengthen the university’s research and educational subjects from an international, comprehensive perspective. - Reorganization of Master’s Program
The Master’s Program has been reorganized with the launching of the Japan Studies Program to promote the study of Japan and Japanese language from an international perspective.
