I am Vrishthi Dhanlall, a South African student currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in Criminology and Psychology at the University of Pretoria.
As a student of Criminology I am particularly interested in studying the culture, attitudes and policies in Japan that have lead to it having an such an astoundingly low crime rate in comparison to the rest of the world.
On a more personal level, I am incredibly excited to be experiencing Japan via this exchange as someone who regularly engages with Japanese media via film and music. It is truly surreal to be in the places where my favorite movies were shot and favorite songs were recorded.
I'd like to express my immense gratitude towards the African Studies Centre at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies and the Inter-University Exchange Project-Africa, for the role they have played in making this exchange possible and making my dreams a reality. The opportunity you have given me is one that is invaluable, and I look forward to making the most of it!
