Emergency Drill Held for International Students
May 21, 2024
On Saturday, May 18, 2024, the International Residence Hall Emergency Drill was held.
The International Residences conduct a disaster drill for residents twice a year, in spring and fall. This time, in addition to experiencing an earthquake with a seismic simulator, there was also a drill for reporting a fire, extinguishing a fire, and AED training.
Approximately 120 students, mostly new international students that enrolled in the spring, participated in the drill and learned how to call 119, use a fire extinguisher, and handle an AED. The students experienced the shaking of a 7 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale in a seismic simulator, which was a valuable experience for international students, especially those from countries without earthquakes, to learn how to prepare themselves for life in Japan, a country with a large number of earthquakes.
The head of the town council of Asahicho, Fuchu City, where the campus is located, and staff from the Fuchu International Exchange Salon and PAL, the on-campus nursery school, also observed the disaster drill.
