TUFS Students Visit Embassy of Japan in Mongolia
September 29, 2022
On Wednesday, August 17, 2022, nine TUFS students participating in a short-term study abroad program at the National University of Mongolia visited the Embassy of Japan in Mongolia to meet with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Hiroyuki KOBATASHI, the Japanese Ambassador to Mongolia, and Embassy staff members who are TUFS graduates.
Comments from participating students
Mr. Takashi Matsushima Nicholas (2nd year, School of International and Area Studies, Central Asian Region / Mongolian)
Visiting an embassy is a rare experience, so I was very excited and nervous before the visit. However, once I entered the embassy, I was at ease because I felt like I was back in Japan. Three embassy staff members, who had also majored in the Mongolian language at TUFS, introduced us to their respective positions. I now think I have more options for the future. Ambassador Kobayashi introduced Mongolian politics and relations with Japan. It was a very meaningful time for me to understand the ongoing situation in Mongolia, which is different from what I learned at university.
Ms. Mariko Fukuda (3rd year, School of Language and Culture, Mongolian)
During our visit to the Embassy, Ambassador Kobayashi gave us an introduction on the history of the two countries, the current situation in Mongolia, its politics and economy, and various commemorative events to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Mongolia. In addition, the staff members who were former TUFS students explained to us what it is like to work as an embassy staff member. All of their stories were very interesting, making this visit a truly valuable experience for us. I would like to thank the people at the Embassy of Japan for all the support they provided us during our stay, even though we were very anxious about our first trip out of Japan since the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thank you very much.
