Graduation Ceremony for the First Class of the Double-Degree Master’s Program, History in the Public Sphere (HIPS)

On Sunday, July 24, 2022, the first graduation ceremony for the double-degree Master’s program History in the Public Sphere (HIPS) was held at TUFS.

The double-degree Master’s program is offered by a consortium including TUFS and the four European universities of Central European University (CEU, Hungary/Austria), University of Florence (UNiFI, Italy), NOVA University Lisbon (NOVA, Portugal), and the National Institute for Oriental Languages and Cultures (Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales, INALCO, France).

From Monday, July 18 to Wednesday, July 20, faculty members from TUFS and the partner universities attended in person or online a joint master's thesis defense at TUFS. Five students in the first cohort who have participated in the program since the 2020 academic year attended in person with another three students attending online. President Kayoko Hayashi presented the program certificates to the first graduates of the program, which began amid the COVID-19 outbreak, congratulated them on their successful completion of the program under difficult circumstances, and expressed her expectations for their future endeavors.

The ceremony was attended either in person or online by President Kayoko Hayashi, Vice President Toru Aoyama, head of the History in the Public Sphere (HIPS) program, and Professor Taku Shinohara of the Institute of Global Studies, as well as by faculty and staff from TUFS and the partner universities.
