On Thursday, December 9, 2021, Ambassador of the Republic of Malta to Japan H.E. Mr. André SPITERI paid a courtesy visit to TUFS President HAYASHI Kayoko.
Ambassador Spiteri studied in the Japanese Language Program (JLPTUFS) at TUFS on a Japanese Government Scholarship in 2007. Associate Professor KOMATSU Yumi (Institute of Japanese Studies), who taught the ambassador's class at the time, also attended the meeting. On this occasion, the possibility of starting an exchange between TUFS and the Republic of Malta was discussed.
After the meeting, the ambassador visited the Japanese Language Center for International Students, where he had studied.
The Republic of Malta is an EU member state located in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea to the south of Sicily, Italy. In 2014, Ambassador Spiteri was appointed Ambassador of Malta to Japan. At that time, Malta did not have an embassy in Japan. He became the first resident Ambassador of Malta to Japan when the Embassy of the Republic of Malta was opened in Tokyo in 2020.
