[A Message from the TUFS President] To all new and current students; 2020 Spring Classes

March 27, 2020

To all new and current students,

As previously announced on March 17 in the notice titled “2020 Entrance Ceremony Cancellation & Spring Quarter Changes”, the start of classes has been postponed until April 20. In addition to this, the University has decided to hold all classes online for at least the first three weeks of the quarter (April 20 - May 8). We hope you understand that this is an unavoidable measure given the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus in Tokyo.

In accordance with this, we ask the following three things of students.

[New & Current Students]

In principle, online classes are to be taken from home. There are some events that will require students to come to campus (student ID distribution, health examinations, etc.), so the University is taking steps to make this possible from May 11. While we may ask students living near the university to come to campus separately, for those planning to move houses to attend TUFS, do not rush, and move under the assumption that you will attend school from May 11.

[New & Current Students]

To participate in online classes from April 20, you must have either a computer, laptop or tablet in your home. In addition to this, you need a stable internet connection. We apologize for any inconveniences, and ask that students make the necessary preparations. TUFS is currently preparing on-campus isolated areas for those who do not have access to a computer or an internet connection.

[New Students]

TUFS will send its first official email to all new students, including those who successfully passed the second-stage screening, at around 17:00 on March 30. Please check the inbox of the email address you registered in your entrance application. Until then, all information will be posted on the TUFS website.

While many of you may be concerned or uneasy due to the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus in Tokyo, I ask that you please remain calm and act responsibly.
I look forward to seeing you all on campus when the situation improves.

HAYASHI Kayoko
President, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies
