TUFS Student Wins JACET Newcomers Award

TUFS student Laurence Newbery-Payton (Graduate School of Global Studies, Doctoral Program, first year) has won the Newcomers Award at the 56 ^th Japan Association of College English Teachers (JACET) International Convention (2017). The award-winning research presentation is titled 'Preposition Errors by Japanese Learners of English: A Learner Corpus Based Analysis,' and was conducted under the guidance of Professor Keiko Mochizuki (Institute of Global Studies, Japanese-English-Chinese Contrastive Linguistics). Mr Newbery-Payton's research is an investigation into preposition errors and the influence of Japanese from a Japanese-English contrastive linguistic perspective through the analysis of English essays written by students from TUFS and two TUFS partner universities (National Taiwan Normal University and Shanghai International Studies University). The data used in this research comes from the ' Japanese-English-Chinese Online Error Corpus ' which can be accessed via the TUFS International Center for Japanese Studies website.
