Fourth Lecture on Olympic/Paralympic Games, 'Sustainability and Tokyo 2020,' held at TUFS

On Wednesday the 25 ^th of October, as part of the Tokyo 2020 Support Education Program, 'Sustainability and Tokyo 2020,' the fourth lecture of the 'Thinking about the Olympic and Paralympic Games' lecture series was held.

The fourth lecture was taught by Takeo Tanaka from the Games Bureau of the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and TUFS Professor Mika Hasebe (multicultural coordination research, specially-appointed professor at the TUFS World Language and Society Education Centre) acted as commentator. Together they gave a lecture on the sustainability of the Olympics, and other related topics.
Mr. Tanaka spoke about the importance of sustainability at the Olympics, and gave an in depth explanation of the Tokyo 2020 'Sustainable Sourcing Code' initiative while introducing the basics of sourcing.
Professor Hasebe gave commentary on sustainability and the background behind how this came to be an issue, while also introducing real-life examples.
Aside from TUFS students, the lecture was also attended by 'Language & Culture Supporters.' Following Professor Hasebe's commentary, there was a lively question-and-answer session, with discussion focusing on initiatives for zero carbon emission, the sourcing code, and other topics.

The next lecture, the fifth lecture of this series, will take place on the 20 ^th of December (Wednesday) to the topic of 'Gender and the Olympics.' This lecture will be taught by Professor Keiko Arai (professor at Gakushuin Women's College, Managing Director of the Japan Olympic Academy). TUFS Professor Rin Odawara (lecturer at the Institute of Global Studies) will act as commentator.
