December 1, 2014
On Tuesday, November 18th, distinguished guests from Turkmenistan visited the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. The group consisted of Annagurban ASHYROV, the director of National Institute of Manuscripts(Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan), Amangozel SHAGULYYEVA, a poet, and Turkmenistan folk musicians.
They had a meeting with TUFS president Tateishi and vice president Hayashi. The group also stopped by the Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa. They met the director of the institute, Mio, and deputy director Iizuka. The party visited Japan to attend an event which celebrated the 290th anniversary of the birth of Turkemen poet Magtymguly. A lecture about the poet took place after the meetings.
Though it was held during a busy time of year, just before the university festival, the lecture was a big success, providing a good opportunity to learn about Turkmen culture, which is unfamiliar to many Japanese.
