TUFS Student Awarded "Magtymguly Pyragy Medal Pyragy Medal" on May 16th

Masahiro Oku (Global Studies major) was awarded “ the Magtymugly Pyragy Medal” at an academic conference which celebrated the 290th anniversary of the birth of Turkemen poet Magtymugly, held on May 14th-16th in Turkmenistan. Turkemen President Berdimuhamedow presented the prize.
While Magtymugly is a key poet in Turkemen language and literature, he is not familiar to Japanese people. Oku was highly praised for his presentation " Some problems in translating Magtymguly Poems into Japanese" and several translations of Magtymugly’s poems. The student is the first Japanese to translate Magtymugly’s works.
