Lecture by Southern African Development Community Starts

On Wednesday, October 9th, Stuart Harold Comberbach, Zimbabwean ambassador to Japan, paid a courtesy call on TUFS and met with President Hirotaka Tateishi and Executive Director for International Strategies Koji Miyazaki. This visit was arranged to coincide with the first lecture in this fiscal year of the “Lectures by Ambassadors residing in Japan of 12 countries in the Southern African Development Community (SADC),” which was launched last year at the same time as the establishment of the Centre of Excellence of African area studies at TUFS.
They exchanged their opinions about the prospective of promoting human exchange not only in the economic field but also in the educational study field according to the “ABE Initiative,” which was announced at the 5th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V). The ambassador turned high expectations towards TUFS to positively promote the interchange with African countries with a focus on Japanese education and African area studies.
Moreover, the courtesy calls by the following ambassadors of the member nations of SADC are scheduled in the future: Republic of Mozambique, Republic of South Africa, Republic of Namibia, United Republic of Tanzania, Kingdom of Lesotho, Republic of Botswana, Republic of Madagascar, Republic of Zambia, Republic of Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Republic of Malawi.
This lecture is conducted in the 2nd period on every Wednesday (at classroom 233 in the lecture building) and it is open to the public.
